WALLEYE

walleye

Walleye are sensitive. The walleye is named after the transparent, opaque pigment found in their eyes known as tapetum lucidum. This pigment helps them to see in the dark and makes their eyes sensitive to light. This is why they are best fished for at dusk or night.  The walleye is the largest member of the perch family and can grow to lengths over 37 inches and weigh up to 25 pounds. They are one of the most highly prized game fish in Wisconsin and considered one of the best fish to eat on the menu. Bon Appetit!
