Bluegills are speedy, their speed is measured by the unit of light's speed. The maximum speed that bluegill can attain is measured to be 2.14 l/s. Besides being fast, they also like to hide. Bluegills prefer very warm, quiet, shallow waters under the cover of weed beds and submerged brush. Bluegill are the most common sunfish in Wisconsin. They can be quickly identified by the black spot that covers their ear flaps--the upper area next to the gill cover. Due to speediness and their small size, Bluegill are in great shape and have a low fat content, which makes for a very healthy Fish Fry!
